Guess who came out of the closet to play?
Zauberflote, that's who! I thought it might be too hot to muck about with all that wool, but the feel of that Scottish 2-ply turned out to be too much to resist. I had Friday off, so I took her down to Knit New York and first I grafted the shoulders together. Now that would be a silly photo because, well, you can't even see where the grafting is, because I've figured out how to do it decently.
The timing worked out really weird, though. I had a horribly strong caffeine buzz (yay for iced coffee at KNY) right when it was time to whip out the Ginghers and snip snip snip through the first steek. I decided to cut her left arm first, so voila, look what we have:

If I had taken a picture now, you'd see that she has about 3 inches of arm, too, but, well, I have to save something for later, now, don't I?
In other news, we're still looking for good recommendations of somewhere to buy fantastic yarn in Scotland. Anyone with great advice, post to the comments, and hopefully it will work! Thanks!
Posted by Jon at July 9, 2006 09:05 PMWith some significant and farflung exceptions, Scotland can be a surprisingly disappointing place to hunt for wool nowadays. Do you know whereabouts you're likely to be going, or are you planning your route according to yarn shops? In Edinburgh, I understand that http://www.handknit.co.uk/ is well worth a visit; otherwise it's a couple of department stores, John Lewis and Jenner's. They stock good yarn (lots of Rowan), but not a vast selection. In Fife, there is http://www.twistfibrecraft.co.uk/ which I understand is very good (they're giving shibori classes!) and http://www.handknitwear.com/ In Glasgow, there is http://www.k1yarns.com/ For other information about Glasgow yarn, try this blog http://kedkrafty.blogspot.com/
In the Borders, http://www.moondancewools.com/ looks interesting but I don't know how current their website is.
In the Islands there is of course Jamieson's (both of them) and Alice Starmore, and http://www.northernlace.co.uk/ and http://www.shilasdair-yarns.co.uk/index.htm
The best Scottish knitting blog is http://www.jeanmiles.blogspot.com/
If I think of anything else, I'll get back to you: if you have any questions, don't hesitate to gte back to me :)
BTW, I also meant to say, I think Zauberflote is fabulous, and I have been watching it in incredulous admiration since you first opened the package of yarn :)
Posted by: Helen at July 10, 2006 06:07 AMI left you a long message yesterday about buying yarn in Scotland, but the system seems to have dumped it, perhaps because it had a lot of urls in it. Email me direct, and I'll send it to you again.
