Yup. That's a stack of 12 Aran Afghan Squares. They're all even blocked. There's still a fair amount left to do: I have to finish the mini-sweater, do the seaming, and make and attach the edging. Still, having 12 finished squares (except for one mini-sweater) is a pretty good thing.
Want to see them? Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the Squares!

They're all from the Great American Aran Afghan book, except for the second one which is based on "Tara" from Starmore's Celtic Collection.
And they're done! The strands you see don't need to be woven in - they're at the corners, and I'm going to use them for seaming. Of course, there will be a lot more seaming than that yarn allows for, but I have enough yarn left. Yay!
Anyhow, hope you like the squares. I sure do!

Posted by: Laura at May 2, 2006 12:08 PMLOVE them- I actually just got that book and was 'considering' making an afghan - thought it would be a good summer project!
Are you happy with your yarn choice? I like the color!
Looking forward to seeing how you finish it up!

Posted by: Rachael at May 2, 2006 03:11 PMWow, that is going to be some piece of knitting when you are done. It will be a real heirloom and one that I will be packing in my suitcase when I come to visit you!
Posted by: Jay at May 2, 2006 08:06 PMVery impressive! You must be able to cable in your sleep now.
Posted by: Becca at May 4, 2006 10:26 AMBeautiful!
Posted by: elaine at May 8, 2006 07:26 PMI, too, am knitting the great aran american afgan. I am in a class in which we finish one square per month. It is both challenging and rewarding to participate in the project. Just finished my 5th square and have begun the 6th. Such a feeling of accomplishment for me as my abilities were limited to knitting, purling and not being able to read patterns well. Was taught to knit by my grandmother as a child. I now am teaching my neice who is 11 now. Thanks for sharing your pictures! The squares are beautiful! Jan
