Our Fingers Are Crossed

Another co-worker is pregnant, and she's due on the 3rd. But Friday is her last day at work before she goes on Maternity, and I thought that since I'm making a baby hat for her, that I should borrow some time from the complicated baby afghan to whip out a quick hat.

But there are problems. For example, I really don't know what size a new-born head is. And while I did find a link to a document which shows average head circumference, well... I still had a lot of fudging to do, because there are really few baby hat patterns on the internet that tell you what size head you're doing this for. So fudge I did.

But I think I ended up with a really cute hat. It helps that the Koigu I picked is positively delicious, but the 6 x 2 rib looks so cute, the way it gently flairs at the cast on edge. And I love the way the fold worked out.

Now, everybody, cross your fingers with me and hope that once the new baby boy comes around, that the hat fits.

Fabulous hat - really shows off the Koigu nicely. Are you going to publish your pattern?

The hat looks very very unique. Very cute. The fabric is stretchy, right? Sending a prayer to the knitting God for you. :-)

good job! super cute design and color-way. i'm sure it'll fit, it's stretchy and newborns have little tiny body parts.

Beautiful hat! But for a newborn, I'd line it with a light, soft fleece. While Koigu may feel soft to us, a baby's skin is too sensitive for wool. AFter 3 - 4 months, that's not as much of a worry.

I really like the colors that you chose- they are not your typical "baby" colors (which I think is just great), and the hat is going to look great on that little boy.

It looks wonderful!! My children were never a "newborn" sized anything. And even though they don't look bizarre, their heads are gigantic - and that's not just the birth pains talking!! Hats are great because they are meant to wear stretched - I'm sure that it will be perfect.

its been a bit since ive read
but one thing i learned when i was pregnant and looking for the same thing.

babies heads come in fruit sizes.

premies are a little smaller than an orange

normal babies are about the size of a grapefruit.

but i like the hat you made:)
i am sure it will fit
