I have some Koigu. I need to turn it into a hat for a newborn. I get about 25 stitches over four inches.
The problem? I don't really even know what size a baby head is. And all the patterns out there I've found so far are for big-ass yarn.
Anyone have any quick free patterns they can help with?
[Ed. Note: Gawd, I feel like a troll asking for free pattern help. But I need it!]

Posted by: Dave at March 26, 2006 11:51 PMHey, you can just do the math. Say big-ass-yarn baby hat pattern is 12 stitches for four inches, and needs 50 stitches. 50 is to 12 as X (your cast on) is to 25 - so do the algebra, take 50*25 and then divide that by 12. For that particular example, it'd be 104. I'm just pulling numbers out of thin air.

If you ever need another baby hat pattern, I've made the "handle" hat (pattern here http://larissmix.typepad.com/photos/knitting_patterns/handlehat3_1.html )out of fingering weight yarn. It was really fast and cute, cute, cute. If you go on her "patterns" section, there is also another baby hat with free pattern.
I LOVE the hat you finished too. It looks great made with that yarn.
