Well, I wound up six balls of yarn so that I have some yarn to knit while I'm in San Francisco the next few weeks. I'm not sure how much time I'll have to knit, but I want to make sure that I have yarn to knit when I do. And, of course, I haven't had time to figure out what a good "travel" project to take with me. So Die Zauberflote is goin' in the suitcase.
All 63 rows of her.

So if we're lucky, I'll have a lot more to show when I get back to New York. And I expect that we'll be even luckier, and we'll get to see photos of her growing in San Fran. Maybe even a photo with a SF knit blogger friend...
Stay tuned, who knows what will happen when Jon's Knit Blog goes West Coast!

Posted by: Phyl at October 15, 2005 01:00 PMFirst of all Jon, Zauberflote is so beautiful. I'm so envious of your dedication. I would love that sweater but don't believe I have the patience to knit it. Secondly, I lived in SF for 2 years about 10 years ago and worked for the San Francisco Opera, where we performed Die Zauberflote to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Mozart. So, I really love your sweater. Say hello to my favorite city in the world and knit on.

Posted by: Gary at October 16, 2005 10:38 PMyour post below answering steek questions was super helpful. so i have another steek question , and it might be a silly one: when you cut the steek and finish the sweater, will the stripes show? would doing a steek on a solid-colored piece, or just without the accompanying color pattern, be worth the trouble?
Posted by: jess at October 24, 2005 02:10 PMI just found your blog, and am so happy to see that you're knitting Zauberflote! (Boy, that looks really funny without the umlaut.) The only picture I've seen of it previously is on the Virtual Yarns site, and that picture is kind of artsy and unclear. I can't wait to watch your version develop and grow.
