I'm here in New Orleans and it's great fun! Enjoying every minute of it so far, including the drunkeness, of course. Honestly, I haven't been that bad. And I even found a yarn shop in the French Quarter. Didn't buy anything, though...
Anyhow, I have lots of fun things to do while I'm here and blogging is not hugely high on the list but I did want you to know that I'm thinkin' of ya, dear readers.
More soon!
Posted by Jon at May 6, 2005 07:04 PMOh, I know that yarn store! I have two skeins of alpaca yarn I got there YEARS ago and have never figured out what to do with. Perhaps I'll make that drawstring bag from Last Minute Knitted Gifts with them. I'd like to go there again sometime.
There's another yarn store near there, not in the quarter, Betty Bournside's, in Metairie which is a suburb on the lake side of New Orleans. My mother speaks very well of it. If you get to visit, tell them Barbara-Kay's daughter sent you, that should have amusing results when it gets back to Mom!
Enjoy your trip!
Posted by: Laura Gallagher at May 6, 2005 08:16 PMWhat yarn store? If I had only known, I might have stayed sober.
Posted by: MarQ1 at May 7, 2005 12:34 AMUm, I think you meant Bette Bornside Company, in Faubourg Marigny. http://www.bornsideyarns.com/
Probably doesn't mean much if you don't live here, but it's the difference between suburbia and city: as in the difference between Knit Happens in Alexandria and the AC Moore in Tyson's Corner
I'd reccommend a visit to the Garden District Needlework Store on Magazine Street -- it's actually in the Irish Channel. At one time they had a huge selection of fabulous vintage yarns at grab-bag prices up in the attic.
