Frustration

So you probably know that if I'm knitting at my house, I probably am also watching television. So you can probably imagine how frustrated I am by the fact that my TiVo has decided to stop working properly. Well, it's actually only lost one of its functions, but in my opinion, TiVo's ability to change the channel on the cable box is one of it's more important skills. After all, you have to change the channel to be able to record the appropriate show.

So I have been trying to trouble shoot and figure out what is wrong. So far, it's not going well. There's a little cable with these IR thingies on the end which emits the light signal that is supposed to change the channel, and I think it might be faulty - because the TiVo works fine as far as anything else is concerned, and the cable remote still changes the channels on the cable box... so I ordered a new IR cable. $6.95. And $25 for overnight shipping. Because, well... I need it! Although that would have bought some nice yarn... Damn!

Damn that sucks. I used the little IR thingies too before I figured out that my cable box has the right, um, hole thingy, to have the direct connection thingy from the TIVO. So I guess, my two boxes are perpetually having sex. LOL

Um, you did repower the TiVO, right? It's basically just a computer and sometimes they 'forget' about their periferals and just need to be restarted. It takes about five minutes since it'll have to redownload all its programming and crap, but if you haven't done it already, yank that power cord outta the wall! It might help. *shrug*

Hey! When you say "TiVo," do you MEAN TiVo or Time Warner's digital cable version of it (also known as DVR)? Because my DVR has been having the same problem! I can change channels with the up and down buttons, but not by inputting the actual channel I want to go to, not even on the guide. I haven't done anything about it yet, though...was hoping it would just go away.

Jon: How perverse. I believe that will be the next thing that Tom DeLay tries to outlaw.
Mushlette: Twice.
Em: TiVo. For real. The Time Warner box and its remote can change channels just fine.

Did you do the foil trick? Of course you did. You're a man of many resources who wouldn't dream of wasting good yarn money unless he had to.
