A F.O.

pink giotto.jpg

It's actually a finished scarf, even though you can't really tell from this photo. And, well, it's not totally done, because I do still have the ends to weave in. But it was my garter stitch rebellion from BCG. And it was fun!

It is: One skein of Colinette Giotto. I cast on about 180 stitches on a 10.5US needle and knit in garter stitch until it was like 5 inches wide. Then I cast off. I picked up stitches along each end (one end at a time, duh), and then knit each stitch Front and back, knit another row, another row KFB, knit 3 rows, another row KFB, knit a row, then bound off. (I didn't have enough yarn for the second end to have quite as much flounce, but whatever.) It's fabulous, and it makes me wish I were a little girl. Almost.

But I've been a bit happier since I found a woman who likes BCG as a boatneck. I'm waiting for her to snap some photos, but she likes it. And it fits her, pretty much. I still feel bad for my friend for whom the sweater was intended. But he's sort of OK with it. Particularly since the woman who likes the sweater and can rather wear it is our boss. And now he's merely asking for a scarf. I don't think I'll give him the Pink Giotto Flounce scarf.

I've also gotten off to a (slow) start on The Baby Blankie of Doom, even though a lot of people think I need to rename it. I'll probably refer to it as the Indy Blankie, but I guess we'll see. I know that I don't plan to refer to it as BBD. I just don't. But I have finished the first row of squares:

I took another photo which shows off the knitting a little bit, and I think it's a kind of cool, artistic photo. So since I have no cats to photograph and show off, here's another gratuitous shot of my intarsia:

There are those among you who will note that there are many more colors here than there were in what I previously described as the swatch for the blankie. Well, that's just the way it goes. I think it looks rather fabulous like this. You will note that the colors which were in the first swatch are all in this row. Along with 17 other colors. That's right, boys and girls. There are 20 fun filled shades of Zara being used in this baby blankie. That's one baby who better not be color blind!

Boo-ti-ful Colinette Garter Stitch! (Don't give it to ex-BCG friend; he can wait for another scarf.)

If the boss likes BCG, then should she have it? *hmmmm* Pros and cons:

Pros
------
- She'll love you forever ("I'll never wash it!").
- She'll perhaps allow this love to influence her job/work decisions ("Excuse me, Mr. Vice-President, but would you like sugar with your coffee?).
- She'll refer you to others, thus bringing in word-of-mouth business ("Umm, I told some friends [about 200] that you make sweaters..." asked in November).
- She'll appreciate you more for skills other than just work-related ("Oh, you have a life outside of work? Can you help me on these projects..." and the work piles up!).

Cons
------
- If anything goes wrong with BCG, it may directly affect your working relationship (i.e. shrinkage, loose tails, loss of life or limbs, etc.).
- Weighing cost-benefit analysis of true cost for construction & assembly of BCG vs. boss' perceived belief of "true cost" may differ; this could lead to "Giver's Remorse" ("Why the hell did I give that to HER? She doesn't appreciate it! Look at the way she pulls the sleeves...and why does she wipe her nose with it! *aaaarrrrgghhhh* There's a bleach spot on her back!??!").
- Boss may expect similar product/construction for future gifts--and won't she be sorely disappointed that she doesn't rate much above the 2- or 3-skein gift tier?

Just some thoughts on my side.

The Pretty Indy Baby Blanket [PIBB? If the baby ends up a boy, you can call it Mr. Pibb! *corny grin*] looks like a LOT of work. But, as we all know, it has a very organized "chart"-loving creator. Maybe you could post the list of all 20 colours you're using?

I just like statistics.

This is going to be a watershed month with Jon in NYC, me thinkest. "What for?" you ask? Jon has many WIPs, but if you look at the right-side in-progress column, it seems like many are all moving towards Ultimate Material Manifestation Moment [UMMM]. Which means, given equal time and enough ADHD moments, his WIPs will hit a...UMMM...and become FOs. And we'll all OOH and AAH!

*wink*

Given all that intarsia, I think Doom is perfectly appropriate. And it's like a coat of many colors--it will be a family heirloom.

Whoa, that's a lot of Zara! Looks great so far, I bet it will be a favorite. I like the "Baby Blankie of Doom" name. If the name portends doom, it makes the knitting intarsia seem not so bad!

Oof, that Indy Blanket is AWESOME! And if'n you don't mind, I'm gonna totalyl copy you with the one skein of Giotto I have. Of course, I need to detangle it first. I got all knotted up the first time I tried to wind it up, so it's been stuck in a drawer for about 10 months.

That blanket is awesome! You have serious nerve to use all those colors!
