I finished blue cable-y sleeve # 2! And I cast on for the front. It's sort of annoying right now, because I have 186 stitches of ribbing, and I think the needle (US6) is either 16 or 20 inches long, so it's very tight on there. But once I get the ribbing done and move to the US8, then I have a needle of the right length and everything will be just fine. The only problem is that I lit a candle last night, and I usually "store" my cable needle right across the glass holder of this candle, but since I had it lit when I finished the final cable row, I don't remember where I put down the cable needle and I absolutely cannot find it! Oh well, I think I have another one somewhere. Or maybe this is just an excuse to go to a yarn shop!
I actually will need to go to a yarn shop, as I mentioned before, because I do not have anywhere near enough yarn to finish the front of this sweater. I think I'm going to need at least four or five more balls of it.
I'll have pictures of how much I have done so far later tonight -- the camera batteries have been sacrificed to the mouse, because I use it more often than the camera.
Posted by Jon at January 2, 2005 10:57 AMDo you really NEED an excuse to go to the yarn shop? I think not! (I know I don't!) I love the color of your blue cable sweater... can't wait to see the finished product!
Posted by: Mopsie at January 2, 2005 12:16 PMYou can use just about anything for a cable needle. I took a broken wooden needle, sharpened it with the pencil sharpener (round off the tips just a bit with an emery board). Though it has no curve, being wood it does hold the stitches well, it's now my favorite cable needle. There is also a tutorial over at wendyknits.com for cabeling without a cable needle.
Yes, even if not for the cable needle you must go to the yarn store. Have you learned to spin yet? You probably need a drop spindle and some roving.
Oh sorry, I shouldn't be such a bad influence :-D

I just found your blog. Just taught myself to knot and crochet over the holidays and I was relieved to see someone else with as many mid-stream projects as I have. Will tune back in to check on the progress.
