Get Your Gusset On

Well, I finished the gusset decreases and a full repeat of the lace pattern last night while watching the final episodes of "Friends" which I had TiVo-ed while I was in Texas. Now I have to figure out how long to make the socks, which, since I'm not sure who I'm making them for is a rather daunting proposition.

It also appears, at least at this point, that two skeins of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock would be enough yarn to make three of these socks. I have to figure out something to do with the rest, I guess.

Anyhow, I'm sure you want me to share the error I made last night on the sock so that you can laugh at me and my knitful foibles. I was watching TV as I was knitting, as I already mentioned. I do this regularly. Only on one of my needle changes (I'm on the ebony DPNs, in case you don't recall), I skipped a needle. So I had this lovely strand floated across 16 stitches but didn't realize until I was right there. So I had to tink back over 48 stitches which included K2TOG's and YO's. But I got it all done and it looks right. Yay, go me! I will probably take a photo for you soon. I am running low on AA batteries, though, so the ones that should be in the camera are actually in my cordless mouse. I'll buy some new ones today. Promise!

Many of those lovely Lorna's colorways compliment each other quite well. Set aside the leftovers to combine with the leftovers of the next pair you knit... You can make wide alternating bands of the two colorways down the entire length of the sock, or make the leg one colorway and the foot another... whatever you want to do with it...I'm saving up all my leftover sock yarn to do exactly that, actually. Works with Koigu too. That yarn's too good not to find a way to use up every last drop.

jon-

if it makes you feel any better, my sock knitting has been a bit uninspired. bad pattern i think...so for over a year, my reggia socks have been languishing. or i should say, my reggia sock has been languishing. worse, i have some beautiful koigu sock yarn that was gifted to me last year, just waiting to be knit up into some beautiful kind of sock. sigh.

i forgot to ask you this: what does blogging, not knitting mean after the blog url's? (updated?)

Elisabeth:
Exactly. I figured I should try and be creative and find something beyond the plain old "Updated..." So I figured if someone's updated their site, it's because they've been "Blogging, not knitting."

Cari:
Thanks for the good advice! I just am looking forward to the point of not having to worry about what's in the sock, and what's left over...

I noticed the same thing--you can get 3 socks out of 100gm of sock yarn. One project I was considering was fingerless gloves. They couldn't be too long, but maybe you could get 2 out of 33gms?
