Yes, We Can!

OMG! OMG! OMG!

I can't believe it. We actually did it. Our long national nightmare is really almost over.

This is truely amazing. I may have to start telling Europeans that I'm from America, rather than from New York. I'm not embarrassed any more to say it.

I'm so proud of us all.

Now...let's all hope that the three anti-gay ballot propositions in California, Florida, and Arizona are defeated as well.

Whoo-Hoo!

Election Day 2008

So the day we've been looking forward to for what seems like forever has finally arrived. I was excited to go down and vote this morning and throw my support behind Barrack Obama and several other Democratic candidates running for various other offices in my district.

I arrived at my polling place at 7.50am this morning, intending to vote and head out to the temp job I'm working this week. My polling place happens to be on the same block that I live on and I've never needed to take more than 5 or 10 minutes to vote.

When I got there, there was a huge line stretching almost out of the building and onto the street. Wow. I've never seen anything like it before. I was waiting in line for 45 minutes before getting to go behind the curtain and do my business.

Spotted in line as I was leaving: famous theatre columnist/critic Peter Filichia. I actually know him and wish I'd had time to stop and say hello, but, by that time, I was running late and he was in the midst of being given instructions by one of the volunteers.

Oh, hey...you know the election rolls, the books of voters names, that you must sign before voting? Guess whose was the next name down from mine in District 9? That would be talk show host (is his show still on?) Montel Williams. He had not yet voted. And is registered as an Independent. And even if I'd noted his address, I wouldn't be telling you.

So I hope everyone is getting out and voting today. Especially those of you who might live in California, Florida, or Arizona, all of which have anti-gay propositions on their ballots. Please vote "no" on these stupid things if you live in one of these states.

George Bush is only for now.
