Dreaming Real

Okay, so I had this dream last night. I don't remember what the substance of it was, but, in the climatic scene, I was desperately trying to hang on to a bicycle and keep it (and me) from falling off the top of a jetliner in flight. Don't ask...I have no idea what prompted such a dream.

There were seats attached to the roof of this jet and people were sitting in them with only velvet ropes around the section to keep them from falling over the side.

Here's the weird part. My hand was clutched in position as if I was really holding onto the bike. And I felt the bike in my hand as I was floating through that sleeping/semi-conscious state just before you awake.

When I was consicious enough to realize what was happening, I thought to myself "This bike isn't real." And it evaporated and my hand relaxed and I rolled over to continue snoozing.

This physical part of dreams happens now and then and always seems to end with me being still in the dream and yet conscious enough to realize it and put an end to it because the physical sensation rouses me in discomfort. But the rousing to semi-consciousness isn't enough...I always have to put the thought into "words" that whatever I'm doing isn't real.

I don't mind this...I just don't understand it.

Luckily, I've never been one to have actual "nightmares." But my dreams tend to be hyper-realistic, sometimes to the point of my being uncertain as to whether they really were dreams or not.

The worst are the strange dreams that won't let me go when I wish to wake. These usually involve something unpleasant, but are not scary. When I reach that semi-conscience state, I want to cross that threshold into consciousness and the dream will not release me. I usually end up thrashing about for a bit until the shear physicality of doing so allows me to wake. Not a good way to begin the day, let me tell you.

And how do you dream?
